STEAM Youth Mentoring Program at Washington Park and Trinity West
The STEAM Youth Mentoring Program changes the lives of young people, exposing them to STEM-focused (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) activities to develop the skills and knowledge that are critical for competing in the regions manufacturing and energy job sector; and provides role models for young people to help them do better in school, avoid risky behaviors and improve their relationships with their teachers and their families. This program is provided through Trinity West and Washington Park for elementary students and Washington and Jefferson College for college students. This program is important because there is an increased demand for programs that provide STEM/STEAM education and activities for young people. The outcomes of this program are 100% of students at both schools will report earnings As and Bs at the end of the school year, 100% of students at both schools will have high educational aspirations such as graduating from high school and attending post-secondary school, either trade school or college, 75% of students at both schools will report disapproval of risky behaviors, 75% of students at both schools will report feelings of social support and improved relationships with their teachers and family members.
